Day -3: Preparing for My Camino de Santiago

Normally, I am pretty good about sensing a surprise, but today I had no clue. My plans for the day were to get a haircut at 10:30 and then go home to spray my sleeping bag and backpack. My plans, as I would learn later, were not in alignment with the surprise that was being planned.

My barber texted me and asked if I could come at 2:00 PM instead without telling me why. I still didn't suspect anything but my plan was to get a haircut by someone at 10:30 even if it meant I went to Hair Cuttery. So I told him I couldn't make the change which I could tell made him uncomfortable. So he honored my 10:30 appointment, but I still didn't sense anything.

I went home afterwards to spray my sleeping bag and get a call from the office that a good friend and client swung by the office to say hi before I left. My first thought was that was a risky move on her part without checking with me so I told the office I would be there as quickly as I could. Still, I didn't suspect anything.

It wasn't until I walked into the office and didn't see any sodas in the refrigerator that I began to suspect something. Even the smiles I saw on faces before I noticed the missing sodas didn't give me a clue.

So they got me good! It was a very nice surprise. I can't believe I get to work side-by-side with people smarter and better than me and that we get the pleasure of serving our great clients.

Thank you for the gift and surprise, Tim, Solon, Bonnie, Chay, Cameron, Susan, Olivia, Zack, and Austin. And thanks for showing up to celebrate, Sally, Peter, and Regina. It was a great surprise before my flight to Paris and my Camino de Santiago.
